For a bathroom remodel around Dandridge or anywhere in Jefferson County, the 20-yard dumpster on a 3-day rental is usually the right call. That surprises people, because a bathroom is a small room and a 20-yard sounds like overkill. But the way our fleet and pricing work out, the smaller dumpster isn't actually the cheaper or easier answer most of the time. Here's the reasoning, from Jason Martin at Dandy Ridge Dumpsters.
Why rent a 20-yard for one small room?
Because of price and availability. The 3-day 20-yard runs $375. Our 15-yard is $350 for 3 days, but we only have one of them, it was Jason's original dumpster from his house-flipping days, and it's out on rentals a lot. So the 20 is $25 more than the 15 when the 15 is even available. Both dumpsters have the same 15-foot by 8-foot footprint and sit on a normal driveway; the only difference is wall height, 4.25 feet on the 20 versus 3.5 on the 15. You're not giving up any driveway space by going bigger, and you get room to spare if the project grows, which remodels have a way of doing.
What comes out of a bathroom remodel?
More than you'd think, and all of it can go in the dumpster. The tub or shower surround, the vanity and sink, the toilet, tile off the walls and floor, drywall, old flooring, and the plumbing fixtures. That's all standard construction debris, and the full accepted list is on our what goes in page. Set aside any leftover cans of wet paint and any chemicals from under the sink, those can't go in. Dried, hardened paint cans are fine.
Will bathroom debris go over the weight limit?
Watch the tile. Every rental includes up to 1 ton of weight, and a vanity, a fiberglass tub, and some drywall won't come close. Tile and plaster are a different story, they're the materials that make a small-room load heavy. If you're chiseling up a fully tiled floor and walls in an older house, mention it when you book. Overage is billed from the exact scale weight, $85 per ton in Jefferson, Hamblen, and Cocke County, and we send the scale ticket with your invoice so you see the real number.
How many days do you need the dumpster?
Three days covers most bathroom demos. Rip-out is the fast part of a remodel, and once the debris is in the dumpster you don't need it sitting there while the new tile goes in. If you're doing the work yourself on evenings and weekends, take the 7-day at $475 and skip the deadline pressure. And if the job runs long either way, extra days are $50 each, just let us know.
